| Practical Application is the initial study of basic software
applications for Macintosh computer such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator,
QuarkXPress, and Macromedia Dreamweaver, all which are essential programs
for studio artists and designers. Through problem solving, in-class exercises
and homework assignments you will approach the computer as a tool in making
your art just as you would a paint brush or pencil. While technical skills
will be first acquired, and then used primarily as a means for articulating
your ideas, the focus will be placed on conceptual thinking and critical
analysis of your work and the work of your colleagues. Upon completion of
this class you will have acquired practical skills, ideas and opinions about
computer art and seeing. This will give you a base for the continuation
of your artistic practice and enable you to extend your explorations beyond
the classroom. You have the first hand in designing and creating your images, and will be encouraged to explore the technical potential of the computer as a tool, while applying both established and contemporary principles of art and design. Differences and similarities between commercial and non-commercial computer generated art will be addressed through assignments, which cover both approaches |
