Note to students: You will no longer be allowed to work on comps and colors drops in class. You will only be allowed to work on finals. If you come to class unprepared you will receive a zero for the day. three zeros equal one project grade of zero, meaning it is doubtful that you will pass.

This info must be on the poster.

The musical is about how various fairy tales--Cinderella, Jack and the
Beanstalk, Red Ridinghood, Rapunzel, etc, go into the woods to achieve
some goal--going to the ball, selling a cow, going to Granny's house.  .
. .  While in the woods, the tales get mixed together, so Red Ridinghood
interacts with Jack and the Beanstalk, Cinderella meets the Baker and
his Wife.  They all interact.  At the end of Act one, everything seems
perfect--they all get what they want.  But in Act 2, a giant attacks the
kingdom--the giant is the wife of the giant who is killed by Jack in the
Beanstalk.  All of the characters again return to the woods to rid the
kingdom of the menace, and the giant crushes many of them in their
endeavors.  Finally, a new world is fashioned.
Witches, wolves, giant chickens, singing harps, trolls, etc--all these
characters are found in the woods.

Your are to create three ideas for this poster. The final will be 14 x 20. Roughs and color drops must be shown in order to recieve a passing grade. They should be quarter size or 3.5 inches by 5 inches. One idea will include the use of a bookshelf with the books acting as trees. The second idea will use substitution with in the text, the character can be hanging on. The third is your's to figure out

Project Eight - due 2/5/07

Go to www.mandalaproject.org. Your mandala should represent the spirituality of Saint Francis de Sales and how you relate to it.Consider materials used to make it. The final should fit into a 12 inch circle and the center circle should be no larger then 5 inches. Repetition, symbolism, and craftsmanship are key.

Project Nine - roughs due 2/9/07 final changed to 2/22/07 at the beginning of class.

Text creations: This is pictionary with words, for good examples, see the display case down in the language wing. Start by writing 100 words. Pictionary game came provide some thought provoking works. If your words are predictable you will do it again. Begin by morphing a letter in the word to show more graphically what you mean. For instance, between the two "L's" in the word shell you might remove the shape of a shotgun shell to state the you like to hunt ducks. It is a fun game. Start with 100 words, do fifty loose possibilities, then focus on ten finals. Finals will be completed in indesign using only typography. You may create outlines and then move the points to change the shape of a letter but you may not add imagery. There are only six computer and they must be done using these computers.

Project Ten - reccomended for 2-D ap portfolio but not mandatory. Must be up to date with other work. Scholarships available throuh this program.

Must be 18 to enter. Visit Udel Nursing Department and create three concepts for the "Show Me, Don't Tell Me" poster. Concept one- Must use the black as a dominate issue with the image as text alone. You may use texture or colors to inhance the text. Concept Two - Make an image using juxtaposition. For instance, a bowl of cereal with a spoon in it and milk on it. Instead of cereal there could be cigarette butts in the milk - the statement you might make? Start your day off without that taste in you mouth. Concept Three - your own concept belongs here.

Project Eleven - Saturday Evening Post Cover

We will explore the illustration of Norman Rockwell and the challenges of creating a cover of a weekly magazine. Will view some solutions in class but you are expected to continue this on your own. The process of his creation should be replicated and shown at the critique. The final should look like a Saturday Evening Post cover complete with text and features. Your concept is critical. What is your issue about, it should fall in line with, but not the same as, one that has already been created. Norman worked with oils, I suggest acrylics, but first you must complete roughs and have them ok’d. Finals will be scanned into the computer and text added. I will update the final size in the future, but it will be the same as the original covers.
