Any student who wishes to take the May or June SAT with the extended time accommodations should see Mrs. Gardner as soon as possible to discuss eligibility.

 

SACRED 2012 is cancelled due to low enrollment.  Refunds are being issued to those who have registered.

 

Dance Friday night from 7:30 - 10:30 PM in the gym, $8.00 at the door. Bring your friends and help support the yearbook.

 

There is a Jefferson Awards meeting during G-6 in Room A-066. We will be collating our information for the regional competition as well as discussing the Summit for March 3rd. All members are expected to attend. Any questions please see Mrs. Ballintyn.

 

Yearbook staff will meet on Thursday after school in A-051. The group shot will be taken Thursday immediately after school in the same room. Check your email for more information or see Mrs. Diemer.

 

Seniors: Formal Affairs Tuxedo will be at Salesianum from Tuesday, February 21st –Thursday, February 23rd for Graduation and Senior Sports Banquet fittings. All seniors must be sized for their tux at this time! Please stop in during your free period or lunch. If you are not sized for your tux - you will not walk at Graduation! (If you do not get sized at this time, you will have to go to Formal Affairs on your own time to do so.) Any questions please contact Mrs. Bartkowski or Mr. McConaghy.

 

Service Opportunity: Mr. Walker will be taking interested students to Urban Promise this Thursday 2/23. Van will depart at 3:45 and return by 6:15PM. Please see Mr. Walker by Wednesday afternoon if interested.

 

Kenney House: Special thanks to all those who participated in our recent Bake Sale. The sale raised over $500.00 for Kevin Neary. It's the smallest stones that often serve as the foundation for great achievement.

 

The Ping-Pong Championships will be held in the gym on Friday, February 24th during the G-6 activity period.  Come out and support your fellow classmates as they battle to earn the title, King Kong of Ping Pong.  This year’s playoff contestants are:  Freshmen- Andrew deLaveaga, Kyle Hinton, Brian Abram, Tiernen Sennigen, and Senior, Dylan Mansi. 

 

This past weekend, Salesianum's Model UN competed in the North American Invitational Model United Nations conference in Washington DC.  Salesianum's team competed against students from all over the world.  Senior, Ian Kerins was one of five individuals given an award in his committee for his role as Arabian Specialist for the State Department.  Congratulations to Ian Kerins and the rest of the Salesianum Model UN team for a job well done.

 

Applications for this summer’s Ronald McDonald Service Opportunities are available in Room A-066. Interested students should see Mrs. Ballintyn for more information.

 

The Christian Service Requirement for this academic school year is due on April 2nd. The requirement is 25 hours. Ten hours must come from service outside of Salesianum School. For freshmen and sophomores, five of the ten hours are fulfilled by your Seeds of Service Day. The balance of 15 hours can come from continued service to an outside agency or from participating in the House service projects. For more information on the Service program, please speak to Mrs. Ballintyn or Mr. Ryan. This is a mandatory requirement and the grade will be reflected in your fourth quarter report card. The Pamphlet is located on the Main School Web Page by clicking the Academics link; then the Departments Link and then the Christian Service Link. Again, this requirement is due on April 2nd.  If your hours are completed and you wish to submit those to Mrs. Ballintyn before the due date, please do so in Room A-066.

 

Students who have completed service at one location for over 30 hours and would be interested in receiving a Jefferson Awards Certificate are invited to submit a recognition form to the Jefferson Awards team. The forms are available on the Service Board in the Dining Center. Any questions, please speak to one of our team members or to Mrs. Ballintyn.

 

The list for students going on the April Encounter has been posted outside the Campus Ministry Office.  If your name is on the list please check to make sure you are available for those dates and confirm with Fr. Patrick or Fr. Vogt by Feb. 22nd.  If there is a possibility you may be in a state sports competition or any other event, we ask that you drop out now in order make space for someone on the waiting-list.  Due to the nature of the preparation for this retreat, we cannot put someone in your spot if you drop out after March 15th.

 

Anyone interested in going on the ND Vision Retreat from Sunday, July 15th- Saturday, July 21st with Father Spellman should pick up information and forms in Room A-145 this coming (G-day) Friday, February 24th. All Forms and checks are due by Tuesday, March 6th (G-day).  Don’t miss out on this unique opportunity to experience of the best of Notre Dame.

 

Any student seeking to use the extended time accommodation for the AP exams must have approval from The College Board.  Please see Mrs. Gardner if you are not certain as to whether or not you have an SSD number.  Please make certain that you notify Mrs. Gardner if you are seeking to use the extended time accommodation for the AP exams.

 

Salesianum’s Annual Spring Blood Drive will be on February 23rd in the Gymnasium. Please see Mr. McConaghy with any additional questions.

 

St. Mary Magdalen School will be hosting their 7th Annual St. Patrick’s Day 3vs3 Basketball Tournament benefiting the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Interested team members should see Mr. Winchell in the Main Office for a registration form. Completed forms are due by February 24th.

 

Penn State at Brandywine is hosting a free Financial Aid Workshop on Saturday, February 25th. It is from 10:00AM - Noon in the Commons Building on the 2nd floor. Please call 610-892-1200 to register.

 

Yearbook - The current list of students who have ordered the 2012 Yearbook is posted on the bulletin board outside of the Raskob Room.  Please check it to be sure your name is on it.  If you haven't ordered a book it is not too late.  Order today! The order goes to the publisher at the end of this month.  There will be very few extra yearbooks available when the order comes in.  Don't delay - Order today.

Attention all sophomores and juniors: Host families are needed for students from our Austrian Exchange Program.  This is a unique opportunity to learn about a different culture, while introducing someone to our country.  Austrian students will be here for ten days beginning the first of March.  In June, Salesianum host students will travel to Austria to spend time with their exchange family.  Please see Mr. Cox in the Band Room to sign up or to hear more details.

 

Attention all Sixers Fans: No matter if you are a diehard fan or jumping on the bandwagon, you don’t want to miss the Sixers game on March 31st with 100 of your Sallies classmates! Tickets are only $30 and are first come, first serve. See Senorita Schneider to sign up.

 

Attention all Rugby players: We will have practice at Stanton Middle this Thursday.  The bus for practice leaves at 3:00PM from behind gym.  Wednesday- we will meet at the Sallies tennis court.

 

Any Swimmer who did not receive a flyer regarding Championship Week Activities should see Br. Harry in the Archive Office or Coach Hannig in the Athletic area.  In addition, swimmers who ordered tickets for the State Meet should pick them up from Coach Hannig in the Athletic area.

 

Attention All Spring Sports Candidates: Reminder that all athletes must have a physical on file with the School Nurse or the Athletic Director before tryout or practice for a team. If forms are needed they are available on the School website, the DIAA site or from Mr. Hart. Remember you cannot practice until your physical has been filed.

Wilmington University is sponsoring a Student-Athlete information night on February 29th at the New Castle Campus in the DAC Auditorium beginning at 7:00PM. It is free and will cover NCAA eligibility and what college coaches look for in student-athletes. Contact Linda Andrzjewski at 302-356-6754 by 2/25 to register or for more information.

 

Low-income families of juniors (earning less than $60,000/year) may be eligible for scholarships to college summer programs. Deadline to apply is March 27th. Apply at www.questbridge.org.  Contact your counselor if you are interested.

 

Financial Aid Meetings: Sophomore and Junior Parents-Please respond to the letter sent home regarding the Financial Aid Meeting on Thursday, February 23rd (for Juniors) or Wednesday, March 7th (for Sophomores). Save the Date:  4 THE BOYS for 2012 will be held on Friday, March 9th at Salesianum School from 7:00PM-11:00PM with a cost of $40pp.  A postcard with ticket information will be mailed to parents.  Updates and information will be posted on the web-page.  This fun evening includes food and drink, a live and silent auction and a chance to win a brand new Chevy Cruze.
