REQUIRED TEXTBOOK: Glencoe – Health: A Guide to Wellness

COURSE DESCRIPTION: Various teaching strategies will stress the importance of health literacy. This will provide the students the means to take an active role in maintaining sound health practices through preventative measures.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:
1. To encourage each student to take personal responsibility for their health and wellness.
2. To introduce sound health practices and lifestyles.
3. To assist each student in applying health education to practical experience.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS: Textbook / Notebook / Dependability
? All students are expected to bring their textbook, notebook and plan book to class unless otherwise instructed.
? Absence is not an excuse. All information, assignments, quizzes, and tests are the responsibility of the student. NOTE: extended absence is treated individually.
? A respectful demeanor is expected at all times.

EVALUATION PROCEDURE:
1. TESTS – 2 tests per quarter = 50% of quarter grade
2. QUIZZES – 4 or 5 quizzes per quarter = 25% of quarter grade
3. HOMEWORK – 5 or 6 homework assignments per quarter (10 points each) = 25% of quarter grade
4. ASSESSMENT PROCEDURE = 20% OF FINAL GRADE
• Each student will be assigned a 25 point assignment each semester.
• Every student will take a 50 question final exam the last week of classes in May. No exemptions.
• The combination of points will determine the students final assessment grade.

GRADING TABLE: GRADUATION REQUIREMENT
92.5 – 100 = A
88.5 – 92.4 = B+
84.5 – 88.4 = B The State of Delaware mandates successful
80.5 - 84.4 = C+ completion of ½ credit of comprehensive
76.5 – 80.4 = C Health Education for graduation.
72.5 – 76.4 = D+
69.5 – 72.4 = D
0 - 69.4 = F

GENERAL COURSE OUTLINE: Our text, A GUIDE TO WELLNESS, will serve as the starting point for all the units covered throughout the year. Other teaching tools will be used to supplement our textbook.
