COURSE DESCRIPTION:  Team based activities are designed to allow all students to actively and successfully participate regardless of skill level.  Students will receive basic skills, rule, and strategy  instruction prior to each activity.  Active participation and sportsmanship will be emphasized throughout the course. 

 

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

1.      To understand and learn the fundamental skills and strategies of each activity.

2.      To teach self-discipline and control.

3.      To promote self-respect and respect for others.

4.      To demonstrate dependability as related to preparation.

5.      To learn the principles incorporated in the concept of teamwork.

6.      To effectively interact and excel in a team environment.

7.      To model sportsmanship and class at all times.

 

COURSE EVALUATION:

            1.   Respectful Attitude and Effort are part of the evaluation formula.

2.      PREPARATION – All students are expected to be properly dressed for class. 

Required activity dress code includes:

·         Salesianum School reversible Blue / Gold Physical Education Shirt.

·         Athletic Shorts.

·         Athletic Shoes and Socks

Not required but strongly recommended are:

·         Towel – Showers are strongly encouraged.

·         Personal Lock – Must be removed from locker after each class.

Medical Responsibility:  All medical excuses must be recorded by the school nurse prior to the start of the school day. 

GRADING SCALE: Pass / Fail / Medical – All students are evaluated on the above criterion.  A student demonstrating a disrespectful attitude or missing any of the required dress code will receive ½ not prepared.  Flagrant disrespect or a full dress code violation will result in a full not prepared for that day.  A student reaching 2 and ½ not prepared will flunk the quarter.  Those flunking will be given one opportunity to perform a make-up assignment and earn a passing grade.  Consult the student handbook for more information on this policy.

 

FIRST SEMESTER ACTIVITIES: Flag Football, Soccer, Speedball / Basketball, Floor Hockey, Volleyball

 

SECOND SEMESTER ACTIVITIES: Wrestling, Circuit Training, Fitness Testing, Tennis, Softball and Rugby

 

NOTE: Various lead-up and recreational games will be played to support a unit or provide a change.
