Information and League Rules

Information

  1. Bowling will occur at First State Lanes near the intersection of Governor Printz Boulevard and Lea Boulevard.  We will bowl on Thursdays beginning on November 29, 2007.  The regular season will end on February 21, 2008.  Playoffs will occur on Thursday, February 28, 2008.  Inclement weather could result in changes in this schedule.
  2. A bus is available to take students from Salesianum School to First State Lanes and then return students to Salesianum School at the end of bowling.  The bus will depart from Salesianum School at 2:55 PM and should return to school between 5:00 and 5:30 PM.   All bowlers are permitted to ride the bus in either or both directions.  Bowlers may also make other arrangements for their own transportation (eg.  Parents may pick up their sons at the bowling alley at about 5:00 PM rather than have them return to school if that is more convenient.)
  3. Cost is $77.50 per player or $310 for a team of four bowlers.  If a team has less than four bowlers, a vacant score and handicap will be used for each position that does not have a bowler.  We will bowl three games each week.  The cost covers all expenses (bowling fees, shoe rental and transportation).

Etiquette

  1. Bowlers are expected to return shoes to the counter and house balls to the racks at the end of bowling each session.  Also, keep your bowling area clean during the session and clean up trash at the end.
  2. Bowlers should be seated when not bowling or stand behind the seating area.  Bowler should not stand on or near the approaches unless it is their turn to bowl.
  3. Keep and consume all food and drinks at the tables.  Be careful not to spill anything and in the event that you do spill something, please inform a faculty member or a bowling alley employee.

League Rules

  1. Teams earn one point for each game one and an additional point for total pins.  Teams earn one half point for tied games or for a tie in total pins.
  2. A team game score is calculated as the total of the bowler’s score plus his handicap for one game added together for each bowler.  Total pins is the sum of the three team game scores for the session.
  3. Handicaps area computed as 90 of the difference between the bowler’s average and 200.  If a bowler has an average greater than 200, his handicap is zero.
  4. If a team has a vacancy, the vacant position receives a score of 120 pins and a handicap of 72.
  5. Any player (team member or substitute) who bowls in the position of another player receives a zero for the frame that was illegally bowled.
  6. Substitutes are permitted but must conform to the following rules.
    1. Each team is permitted to use one student who is not a member of the team as a substitute during the first nine weeks of the regular season.
    2. A student substitute may only substitute on one team.  He may not substitute for different teams on different weeks.
    3. No student substitutes will be allowed for the tenth week of the regular season (position round) or for the playoffs.
    4. A student substitute may not be used to fill a vacancy on a team.  Student substitutes are only permitted to take the place of an absent bowler who is paid in full.
    5. Faculty member substitutes may be used at any time at the discretion of Mr. Johnson.
    6. Use of a substitute must be approved by Mr. Johnson at the beginning of the session during which the substitute will bowl.  Student substitutes used during the 8th and 9th weeks of the regular season may not be first time bowlers and must have an established average.
    7. Substitutes must have their own name entered into the telescore and bowl in the position to which they are assigned.  The substitute’s handicap must be used in calculating the team game score and team total pins.
    8. Substitute’s scores must be recorded on the recap sheet using the substitute’s name.
  7. When a team bowls against a BLIND, the team must earn a game score greater than the sum of the bowlers’ averages and handicaps minus 40.  A tie is achieved if the game score is equal to the sum of the bowlers’ averages and handicaps minus 40.  Similarly, the team wins total pins if the total pins is greater than three times the sum of the bowlers’ averages and handicaps minus 40.  A tie in total pins is achieved if the total pins score is equal to three times the sum of the bowlers’ averages and handicaps minus 40.
  8. Rules may be added to these at the discretion of Mr. Johnson.
