Caesar Augustus The Augustan Age , commonly dated from 30 b.c. - 14 a.d. was a pivotal period in world history. Augustus presided over great changes in political and social history, architecture and art, religion and literature. His reign began what came to be known as Pax Romana, nearly 200 years of prosperity unknown until his time. In the 23rd year of his reign, in the Roman Province of Judea, Jesus of Nazareth was born. Julius Caesar, Marcus Tullius Cicero, Publius Virgilius Maro are the Latin authors we will study in Latin class. In one way or another, each of these literary giants was involved with Augustus and his unique destiny. As Latin students, you will enjoy the satisfaction of studying this pivotal period of western civilization in the original Latin texts. Welcome to Latin literature!
