Publius Vergilius Maro

This course is for the student who has completed Latin I, Latin II and Latin III successfully and who has a desire to do further study and exploration of Latin literature, history and culture.

The writings of the Roman poet Publius Vergilius Maro - known to later generations as Vergil - form the core texts for this course. His masterpiece Aeneid will be studied for its content, form and influence on Western literatures. Background in mythology, history and politics will also be surveyed.

Greater attention and detail will be given to the study of Greek roots for their influence on both English and Latin vocabulary.
