| Frequently Asked Questions |
| What is JUG? |
JUG is the term for daily detention served for minor infractions of school policy. It is lasts 40 minutes and requires after school silent study. Failure to serve JUG results in a demerit. A demerit is three consecutive detentions and a major infraction of school policy. Detention is served on the date of issue, excused only for an extreme family hardship. The Assistant Dean of Students or Dean of Students may excuse in advance a student from JUG. |
| What is the policy for lateness to school and class? |
All students are expected to be in class on time. Being late for school or class results in a 25 minute late detention. Failure to serve late detention results in a disciplinary JUG. After 4 grace lates each semester (validated by a parental call or note only) a student serves mandatory late detention each time. If a student is excessively late his case will result in suspension and parameters governing his continuance. The policy is in effect to safeguard our responsibility to our families, and to preserve a good transcript of public record for future admission to college, and background check by employers. |
What happens if a student is suspended? |
Immediately upon an infraction requiring a suspension from school parental contact is made. A student is sent home with the understanding that they cannot return until a parental/administrative meeting is conducted. Usually the meeting is held after all teachers are notified to send in current observable information which serves to give a snapshot of how a student is doing in the areas of attitude, effort, and behavior. After a full review of the cause of suspension, meeting with the suspended student and his parents, an offer for readmission may be made. A contract of expectation follows in writing to the family. A student may return to class once a suspension is lifted. In some cases a student is placed on Disciplinary Probation the highest level of monitoring before a student is not invited to return to Salesianum. Disciplinary Probation lasts one full academic quarter, and is reviewable. Students on Disciplinary Probation are excluded from all extra-curricular activities until the Probation is lifted. |
