March 2004

Middle States Evaluation: On March 19th, the entire faculty and staff began its work on the self-study portion of our Validating the Vision re-accreditation process. We developed first drafts of our school’s Belief Statements. Belief Statements are statements of conviction about what we value and commit ourselves to achieving. They are the core principles that animate what we do and explain why we do it in our distinctly Salesian way.

In addition, the faculty broke into several State of the School Report committees. These teams will examine every aspect school life, from governance to finance, to curriculum to Catholic identity and mission. The SOSR will give us a clear picture of Salesianum “as we are,” which in turn will form the basis for our planning to become “what we want to be.”

On March 22nd, the Planning Committee of the re-accreditation process met for the first time. This team of 29 people represents all of Salesianum’s stakeholders: students, faculty, staff, administration, Oblates of Saint Francis de Sales, parents, alumni, Trustees, and friends of the school. This Committee is the “Board of Trustees” of our entire planning process, and will remain in place as a self-perpetuating body even after the Validation Team visit is over, to guide our implementation of our strategic plan. The Committee laid groundwork for its efforts in the fall semester and also began drafting Belief Statements.

The final edition of the Belief Statements will be available at www.salesianum.org once they are completed in the fall. Look for a Middle States link that will be created soon, so that you can follow our progress in creating our desired future for Salesianum.
